BACKGROUND:
The WiCell™ Research Institute, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, is seeking an experienced individual to join its team. WiCell™ is a dynamic independent research institution with a primary research focus in human embryonic stem cells, a rapidly growing research field with tremendous potential to affect our understanding of basic human biology, improve drug development, and potentially improve human health.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The System Administrator/Web Developer will provide system administration for the Bioinformatics Core group. The System Administrator/Web Developer will handle all aspects of installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux based servers and will work with a team of bioinformatics programmers developing and maintaining our existing framework, expanding our strategies and user account management and backup. General duties include but are not limited to: install, deploy, maintain, troubleshoot, and back up UNIX/Linux based servers; update and maintain servers including cluster maintenance; perform scheduled backups of data on servers for disaster recovery and evaluate and modify disaster recovery procedures; and develop and manage a robust data backup and retention strategy. Other duties include assisting bioinformatics programmers and other project staff in creating applications for data collection, validation, and analysis to directly support research by WiCell™ staff and collaborators.
REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or biological sciences is required, Master’s degree is preferred. The position requires knowledge of the UNIX/LINUX operating systems; additional web programming skills are desired but not necessary. Strong candidates will possess experience in Linux operating systems, programming, and shell scripting. Strong systems design and programming skills are required. Experience with various programming languages and environments including LSF, SGE, C, C++, Java, Perl, PHP, SQL, HTML, XML Apache, Web Services, Ant, and CVS is desired. Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are required. Ideal candidates will demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as with others in a team environment.
