BACKGROUND:

The WiCell™ Research Institute, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, is seeking an experienced individual to join its team. WiCell™ is a dynamic independent research institution with a primary research focus in human embryonic stem cells, a rapidly growing research field with tremendous potential to affect our understanding of basic human biology, improve drug development, and potentially improve human health.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Research Specialist-DNA Sequencing, serves as part of the Bioinformatics Group at WiCell™ and will be responsible for supporting DNA sequencing using the Illumina 1G DNA sequencer. This next generation sequencing technology opens up an exciting array of research possibilities focused on studying gene expression and transcriptional regulation in embryonic stem cells and their differentiated derivatives. General duties include but are not limited to: cell culture, DNA and RNA sample extraction and preparation, cluster generation, and sequencing, and the implementation of new methods for sample preparation and sequencing as they become available. This position requires working closely with the Assistant Scientist-DNA Sequencing to develop effective methods and processes for the aforementioned tasks.





REQUIREMENTS:


A Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences is required, with molecular biology experience. Previous experience in culturing human embryonic stem cells is not required; however, experience in sterile cell culture techniques and sequencing technologies is desired, along with a familiarity with Bioinformatics. Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required. Ideal candidates will demonstrate ability to maintain stem cell lines and ability to work well with others in a lab setting. Some evening and weekend work is required.
