RESPONSIBILITIES:
A Bioinformatics Systems Programmer position is available in the Global Health Bioinformatics Core facility at Seattle Biomedical Research Institute (SBRI). This position is responsible for development of applications in support of SBRI's biotechnology cores. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Bioinformatics Systems Programmer will coordinate with scientific and administrative staff to develop stable applications and databases, troubleshooting problems effectively when necessary, create and maintain applications to automate processes and biotechnology core workflows and provide database design and integration for scientific application systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate will have 18 months to 3 years of IT/computing work experience with emphasis in the development of web-based applications and a BS degree required in Computer Science or related field. Experience in a scientific, academic or non-profit environment life is preferred. Other qualifications include but are not limited to:
- Proven development experience in .NET, ASP, C#, Java or Perl. Experience with Linux shell scripting, DOS batch, and/or other scripting languages desirable.
- Experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, DHTML, AJAX.
- Demonstrated ability to think both architecturally and operationally while completing application development projects.
- Experience in database design and the relational model. SQL programming and Perl DBI..
- Web programming experience connecting to SQL Server2000 and/or Oracle RDBMS databases including reporting queries and export/import routines.
- Familiarity with web-service architectures. XML, WSDL/UDDI and SOAP
- A true Customer Service mindset. Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Linux (or other Unix variant: Solaris, AIX, SCO, BSD) systems administration experience a plus.
- Experience with systems monitoring and management tools for Windows and Linux.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
